Arc Flash Study
As industries of all types continue to place a tremendous amount of emphasis on safety in the workplace, employers are looking to avoid as many potentially dangerous situations as possible.
One excellent form of preventative protection is Arc flash analysis. Arc flash is defined as the result of a rapid release of energy due to an arcing fault between two energized electrical components. During an arc fault, the air acts as the conductor. An Arc flash incident and the resulting arc blast are extremely dangerous and may result in serious injury or even death. 5-10 injuries occur each day that are a result of arc flash.
An Arc flash analysis is a study that measures all the components of a power distribution system and calculates safe working conditions for each piece of electrical equipment. The calculations are based on the NFPA-70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. Each component of your electrical system is provided with a customized warning label that lets any worker know exactly what the safe working conditions are for that particular piece of equipment.
Many insurance companies strongly suggest or require an Arc flash analysis to be performed in any facility that has potentially dangerous equipment. In addition to providing safe conditions for all workers in the area, it also limits liability in the event of an arc flash incident.
